The interiors of City Hall stay true to the building’s pre-1920 roots. Most of the original brick remains in the column-free event hall, as do the detailed truss ceiling and 20-foot clerestory windows. Skylights run the length of the building and bathe the space in natural light, accentuating the intricate iron trusses and exposed brick original to the structure. The open hall brings in classical and neoclassical design elements that emulate those of historic city halls in Chicago and across America.

Refined finishes such as laser-cut art deco steel panels and a 37-foot marble bar flanked by fluted columns dazzle, while a newly built brick second floor, complete with wedding suite, overlooks the space. The building’s industrial character is preserved with touch points inspired by historic municipal buildings, while classic details and finishes, including custom chandeliers, enhance the space’s timeless aesthetic.

City Hall

City Hall Chicago boasts 5,400-square-feet of flexible event space, with a separate grand entrance on Kinzie Street. The column-free hall, with its soaring 40-foot-high ceilings, 37-foot stone bar and industrial-elegant architectural detailing, is a striking venue for large-scale events, meetings and receptions. City Hall Chicago also includes a fully equipped wedding suite/green room along with additional bathrooms on its Mezzanine Level.

In the adjunct bar, named Recess, roll-top glass-paneled garage doors open directly onto the patio. Awash in natural light, the dining room is anchored by a 40-foot wooden bar that feels like it’s been there forever—or at least as long as the Daleys were in office. Leather chairs, bar stools and tufted couches add to the casual ambiance. Two raised platforms, the north and the south, are available for semi-private functions, sit-down dinners, or casual cocktail gatherings.

The Patio

Surrounded by shipping containers, the patio at Recess is the perfect summer hangout spot. Two large containers open up and convert into bars to serve up refreshing libations. In the middle of the patio, a square raised platform can act as a center-stage or simply a semi-private option to watch the crowd from above. Second floor containers are also available as a quasi-private option with reservations. In cooler months, we offer different outdoor heating options such as standing heaters and fire pits to cozy up around.
